with questions
Stage 1 - Desired Outcome
Established Goals:
G
* the students will understand why the Earth's ecosystem never runs out of food.
The students will understand the importance of Autotrophs for the ecosystem.
Understandings:
U
Essential Questions:
Q
Students will understand that…
· everyday, billions and billions of people and animals are always eating. Why is it sustainable? Where does our food come from? · Why don't we ever run out of food?
Photosynthetic organisms play the central role in introducting energy into the ecosytem
Students will know . . .
K
Students will be able to
S
* the difference between producers and consumers. They will know how energy enters the ecosystem. They will understand how energy flows from one lifeform to another.
* the students will be able to identify the unique role of the Autotrophs.
Stage 2 - Assessment Evidence
Performance Tasks:
T
Other Evidence:
OE
* The students will be given a variety of organisms found in a common ecosystem, they will dtermine the flow of energy from the top predator down to the producers.
* The students will be further assesses through quizzes, tests, observations, and homework.
* student performance will be assessed on the accuracy of their analysis of the ecosystem.
* How will students reflect upon on self-assess their learning?
Stage 3 - Learning Plan
Learning Activities:
L
The students will see the different niches in an ecosystem
How will the design
W = Help the students know Where the unit is going and What is expected? Help the teacher know Where the students are coming from (prior knowledge, interests)?
H = Hook the students with pictures of different organisms
E = Equip students with laptops to recreate the energy flow through the ecosystem
R = the students will be given the opportunity Rethink and Revise their energy flow charts after we go over the results.
E = on our blog, the students will evaluate their work.
T = the lesson will be Tailored for the different learning styles (e.g. visual learners, kinestetic learners etc)
O = the presentation will be Organized to maximize student involvement.
· Why don't we ever run out of food?
